The juicy and concentrated 2015 Finca El Otero is clean and fruit-driven, with black fruit and subtle spices. It has nice aromatics and a pleasant mouthfeel. 55,000 bottles were filled in July 2017.

The single-vineyard 2014 Finca El Otero felt very young and in need of some more time in bottle to be able to integrate the toasty aromas from the barrels. It's polished and sleek, nicely crafted, with good balance and supple flavors. It's a textbook Tempranillo aged in barrel for 16 months. It has an approachable, commercial profile. 55,000 bottles produced.

The just-bottled 2012 Finca el Otero is a single-parcel Tempranillo from the oldest part of their vineyard surrounding the winery in Anguix (Burgos). It's a little closed now, but it has a sense of harmony and restraint that I like. The palate transmits the same sensations, good balance, restrained power and fine tannins. This is approachable now but will surely develop more complexity over time. 20,000 bottles were filled in June 2015.

The 2010 Aster Finca El Otero is a single-vineyard Tempranillo fermented and aged in oak barrels. It has a flowery, exuberant nose mixing aromas of violets, plums, and blueberries with lactic hints and spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, good acidity and balance. It’s a showy, succulent style of Tempranillo with lactic and chocolate hints, without being exaggerated or overwhelming. Drink 2014-2018. Aster is the Ribera del Duero winery from La Rioja Alta in Haro. They own 95 hectares planted around the winery in the village of Anguix, close to Roa in the province of Burgos. The 2009 Aster Finca El Otero comes from a parcel in Otero Anguix: 40-year-old vines aged in new French oak for 12 months. It has a simple, delineated nose of dark red cherries and raspberry that needs to develop more personality. The palate is supple and lithe on the entry with sweet red cherries, raspberry, soy and dried herbs; although the finish is a touch diffuse. Drink now-2015.
