A well-crafted, off-dry Riesling, with serious tension and concentration. Rich and pure, with a chiseled profile bringing harmony and balance to the ripe fruit. Shows honeycomb and dried flowers that merge with plush peach, star fruit and sun tea filigreed with mineral notes. Elegant. The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is very fine and subtle on the intense yet elegant and lemon-fresh bouquet. Fresh and crystalline on the palate, this is a rich, juicy, piquant and refreshing Auslese with a long, intense, well-structured and grapefruit bitter finish. Complex and long. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The intense acidity acts as a backbone and drives the flavors of yellow apple, lemon curd and orange blossom honey, with hints of spruce. Electric and pungent, this shows lots of complexity and is just starting to come together. Beautiful length. Based on at least 50% botrytis, the 2017 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is intense and concentrated but fine and slatey on the nose, with crushed stone and some citrus fruit aromas. On the palate, this is a lush, intense, charming and delicate Auslese with good grip and a firm, slightly "greenish" and stimulatingly salty finish. Keep this for at least a decade. Tasted in March 2019.
