There is a nice, soft intensity to the 2017 Langhe Barbera. It offers chewy, black fruit that shows the real character of Barbera, spending just up to 12 months in oak. It is a fairly simple but downright enjoyable red wine. Some 20,000 bottles were made.

Einaudi’s 2010 Barbera del Piemonte possesses good depth and energy, but it can’t quite match the Doglianis for their sheer personality. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014. Einaudi is another Piedmont winery with plenty of great choices in all price ranges. The 2009 Barbera is a deep, expressive red graced with excellent fleshiness in its dark berries, raspberry jam, flowers, spices and new leather. The 2008 Barbera flows with beautifully delineated fruit in a delicate, feminine style that is highly appealing.
